If you are in Central NY please read the following and the attachment about a free training program aimed at women who are new to farming. The actual application says the deadline was September 30 but this notice says it is October 9th so if you are interested get in touch with them right away. This is not a BOW event but some of you might be interested in this training. Kelly Beginning Women Farmer Training Program--Application Deadline October 9th Central NY RC&D has announced the 2010-2011 training program aimed at new women farmers who are interested in increasing profitability, improving the ecological soundness of their land & resources and improving the quality of their lives on the farm. This training will teach a holistic and comprehensive approach to showing farmers how to: (1) improve on-farm decision making through farm goal setting and a method of filtering advice/options; (2) increase work effectiveness and keep on track through monitoring; (3) improve on-farm communication and time management; (4) create a marketing, financial & business plan; and (5) improve soil health with livestock, cover crops and rotations. Please pass this flyer and application along to any beginning women farmers (less than 10 years experience) who may be interested in this no-cost training. Additionally, there is an application for paid farmer-mentors who would participate in this program and learn alongside participants while also providing assistance to the new farmers in their class.
