Subject: [Becominganoutdoorswoman] Wildlife Tracker Training
Message-ID: <4EEA1245020000E50003CF5F@gwsmtp.dec.state.ny.us>
This is not a BOW event but may interest some of you that live in the Champlain Valley. If you have questions or to register please contact Elizabeth whose contact information is below the notice.
Beginning January 7 Susan Morse of Keeping Track is teaching a tracking course sponsored by the Northeast Wilderness Trust. The goal is to train volunteers to read animal track and sign and eventually to monitor parts of the Champlain Valley for wildlife presence and movement. Sue is a great teacher and the course is excellent. She is a forester and a hunter as well as being a conservation planner--all perspectives are welcome and dialogue about how to enhance habitat for game and non-game species is encouraged. The course covers tracks and sign for northeastern mammals and a few bird species. There are six field days and two evening classes, starting in January and going through October 2012. It's suitable for hunters, trappers, photographers, road crews and any landowners or woodlot owners who want to know more about the woods and what animals need in the way of habitat.
I have attached a flyer with the dates and a registration form. The cost of the course is $525 but Northeast Wilderness Trust has offered very generous scholarships with a very simple application (see the end of the registration form). I am happy to discuss this with anyone you think might be interested. I can offer a $150 discount to members of NYFOA or CCE.
The course starts Jan. 7 and we still have space available. I know the course could benefit anyone who enjoys being in the woods.
Thank you for any help in promoting the tracking training. For more information see http://www.newildernesstrust.org/get-involved/events/ or http://www.keepingtrack.org/article/articleview/3332/1/390/index.html
Enjoy these winter days. Snow will be here before we know it.

I just wanted to let you know that there are still openings in the Baja BOW trip, March 8-15, 2012. This is a week-long island adventure for women. Participants will experience island living at a full service camp on the World Heritage Site Isla Espiritu Santo. Activities include snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, camping, educational programs, fish surveys.
This trip is a joint venture of the national BOW office in Wisconsin and an outdoor adventure company. They have been offering this trip for a number of years. The pictures of the "camp" are amazing and can be seen at http://www.greenedventures.com/bajawomen This is the outdoor adventure of a lifetime!
