Workshops are listed by region. A direct link to each online registration page is included. If you haven?t attended a particular workshop, feel free to register. If you know of a fellow educator that would be interested in these multi-disciplinary offerings, please forward this information to them. This year, we have introduced two new, kit-based workshops, Sustainable Living (2.5 hours) and Take Action at Home (4 hours). The Take Action at Home workshops will only be offered once in each state region: Sustainable Living (Grades 6-12) Learn how to measure your energy use and make informed, energy-wise decisions. Engage in hands-on activities and receive a teaching tool kit you can use with your class to explore sustainability practices in energy, water, transportation, food, and the consumption of goods. Following the workshop, you and your class can qualify for incentives and prizes based on your implementation of sustainable actions. Take Action at Home (Grades 4-6) The Take Action at Home program combines thinking and talking about energy with strategies to save energy at home. Participating teachers receive a tool kit containing energy efficient technologies and a selection of instructional materials correlated to the New York State Learning Standards. Every student receives a take-home kit to make their home more energy efficient. Incentives and prizes are available for implementing actions at home and submitting energy action plans. All of these workshops provide free instructional material and (if needed) substitute stipends of up to $125 per teacher per day for workshops that take place during normal school hours. In addition to these workshops below, the Energy Smart Students program will also work with a school/library/BOCES/etc. to present free workshops for a professional development day or similar event. Call 1-866-552-4683 or email info at nyess.org for more information.
