Center naturalists will lead an outdoor walk on the natural history of trees and their tremendous importance to people, from food to shelter and nature?s natural air conditioning system. The program will include hands-on activities that parents and children may do together, tree anatomy, the many different types of trees, and trees? vital role in ecology. This program is open to the public free of charge. Parents and children must accompany each other. Participants should dress for the outdoors. MAPLE SUGARING PROGRAMS AT FIVE RIVERS CENTER The last weekend of maple sugaring demonstrations for this season at Five Rivers Center will be held Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The Center is located at 56 Game Farm Road, Delmar. Learn about small-scale, backyard maple sugaring. Participants will identify sugar maples, see tapped trees and maple sap boiling into syrup in an evaporator. Visitors can enjoy tasting real maple syrup as well as raw (boiled) sap. Everyone will have fun with guided hands-on maple sugar making. A local maple producer will be on hand with a variety of maple products for sale. Five Rivers Center maple sugaring demonstrations are free. Scout and youth groups are welcome, but must register at least three days before the day they wish to attend.
