FIVE RIVERS SETS WOODLAND WALK -- Saturday, July 23 at 2:00 PM A guided walk in a woodland will be conducted at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center on Saturday, July 23 at 2:00 PM. In Japan, moving slowly through the forest is a widely recognized health practice known as Shinrin-yoku, literally "forest bathing." Asian researchers studying the health benefits of woodland walking have found that sustained inhalation of tree-derived wood essential oils can boost the immune system. Over forty forest therapy bases have been established in Japan, where the government promotes forest bathing for tourists. This program is open to the public free of charge, but space is limited. Please call the center at 518-475-0291 by Wednesday, July 20 to register or for more information. In the event of inclement weather, this program will be cancelled. National Walk in the Woods Day is intended to inspire Americans to take time to enjoy the nation's forests and outdoor spaces, and to remind us of our responsibility to be good stewards of these critical natural resources.
