Friends and Colleagues ? We would like to remind you that applications from eligible organizations to conduct projects within the Onondaga Lake watershed for the 2012 Onondaga Lake Partnership (OLP) Public Education and Outreach Mini Grants Program are due and must be postmarked by Friday, February 24, 2012. Complete information about eligibility and the application form for the Onondaga Lake Partnership Mini Grants Program may be obtained on the OLP website, www.onlakepartners.org/public_projects_mini. Award notification will be made by early April 2, 2012. Please note: The Mini Grants Program has a shorter timeline this year, than in prior years. Projects must be completed no later than August 31, 2012. Unfortunately, there will be no exceptions to this date and extensions cannot be granted. The OLP grant will be ending in September 2012 and it is imperative that all OLP Mini Grants are completed and final reports are received by August 31, 2012. The purpose of the program is to fund locally-based projects designed to increase the knowledge and involvement of the public in Onondaga Lake and its watershed. Organizations eligible to apply include: Indian Nations or their designated organization, local government or public agencies, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations and associations. The funding will be allocated across four categories: Environmental Stewardship, Environment Education, Organizational Assistance, and Public Information and Involvement. Recent areas of interest for the OLP are: fish consumption advisories, mudboils, public and youth education and outreach about Onondaga Lake issues, and green infrastructure. Individual grants will be awarded in various amounts up to $5,000. For information about the boundaries of the watershed, please consult www.onlakepartners.org/onlakewatershed. Questions about the OLP Mini Grants Program should be directed to the Onondaga Environmental Institute by calling 315-472-2150 x12, or via e-mail at olpoutreach at oei2.org. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact OEI if they have questions about the eligibility of their potential project.
