March 2008 - Nassau and Suffolk Counties 

CleanSweepNY is an opportunity to dispose of unwanted and/or obsolete pesticides and chemicals including elemental mercury. This opportunity is directed at agriculture, professional certified applicators, golf courses, cemeteries, marinas and schools. Additionally, empty triple-rinsed HDPE-2 plastic pesticide containers and triple-rinsed metal pesticide containers will be collected and recycled. Please see triple rinsing Instructions. 

These efforts are administered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and are supported by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the Agricultural Container Recycling Council (ACRC). 

Cost:  No charge to farmers.  All others receive free 100 lb pesticide benefit.  Please refer to the disposal Cost Structure for specific pricing information.  Care Environmental Corp. has been contracted to handle the collection and disposal services.

There is NO enforcement potential for any product turned in as part of this collection program.  Nine CleanSweepNY efforts have been conducted throughout New York State and 1,143 have registered with NO enforcement of any kind to any participant.  Please, do the right thing and participate!

When:  Last week of March 2008.

Where:  Targeted Counties:  Nassau and Suffolk Counties of Long Island, NY.  Others may participate; however, no onsite collections will be included in non-targeted counties.

Pre-registration is mandatory to participate in the collection events.  Registration packets will be mailed out via USPS upon request.  Call 1-877-793-3769 to request a packet.
