Stony Kill Farm Hosts Bugs and Butterflies Festival Butterflies, caterpillars and chrysalises will be the focus of the day at Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center's annual Bugs and Butterfly Festival on Saturday, August 15 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A screen tent will temporarily house live butterflies for the day. Families can take turns entering the tent to get close to monarchs, eastern tiger swallowtails, spicebush swallowtails and great spangled fritillaries. Other activities include butterfly crafts, storytelling, games, face painting and being transformed into an insect. Come experience the fun. Maybe a butterfly will walk on your finger! See our lineup below! Saturday, July 4 - No programs. Have a safe and happy 4th of July! Trails and grounds are open from sunrise to sunset. The outdoor comfort station is also open sunrise to sunset for your convenience. Saturday, July 11 at 10:00 AM. Help us search for wildflowers in bloom as we take a leisurely ramble on one of our wooded trails. Soapwort, Joe-Pye weed, moth mullein and milkweed are just a few we might encounter. Saturday, July 18 at 10:00 AM. What edible and non-edible wild fruits can we find growing along the paths and grounds of Stony Kill? Join us on as we wander along cool paths looking for these gifts of summer. Saturday, July 25 at 6:30 PM. Make a firefly "lantern" and learn the fascinating story of bioluminescence and how fireflies use it to find a mate or a meal. Every Saturday, at 2:00 PM through July 25 - Guided Nature Walks Venturing outside brings personal rewards as we discover the sights, sounds and smells of summer. Chirping birds, scenic landscapes and the comings and goings of animals that leave their tracks and traces behind all contribute to an exciting outdoor experience. Join a Stony Kill naturalist every Saturday afternoon as we go exploring. For all ages. Cameras and binoculars welcome! Every Saturday, from 11:00 AM-1:00PM through September - Open Barn Come meet the livestock up close. Trained staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions (Meet at the Manor House Visitor Center for all programs unless otherwise noted. It?s always smart to carry a water container in the summer to keep hydrated.)
